March 12, 2006: The Red Umbrellas Support Truehope in Health Canada lawsuit

A letter detailing the success of several individuals using EMPowerplus was sent to all MPs before the second vote on Bill C-420 was taken in February of 2005. The bill was originally passed in October 2003 and sent to committee, but when the election was called, all unfinished business had to be started over. For a second time, in 2005, Parliament voted to change the law that requires all treatment for mental illness be regulated as a drug. Then once again, the work was scrapped with the dissolution of the Liberal government.

For years, Health Canada has used the antiquated and twice defeated Food and Drugs Act to restrict and complicate access to our treatment of choice. They claim to protect us, all the while threatening to drive healthy people back to a broken medical system that failed us in the first place. Find out more about how Health Canada is failing to protect us by visiting www.healthcanadaexposed.com.

The Red Umbrellas are here to support the co-founders and developers of Truehope and EMPowerplus. EMPowerplus is a natural vitamin and mineral treatment for mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder and depression. It is our treatment of choice.

On Monday, March 13, 2006, Truehope is answering to charges laid as a result of Health Canada's investigations into Truehope and EMPowerplus back in May of 2003. Five of the six resulting charges have since been dropped due to insufficient evidence of any wrong doing. The final charge, selling EMPowerplus without a DIN, is the only remaining charge that Health Canada believes they can win. Truehope will face a maximum fine of $500 if found guilty and the company will still be able to legally operate in Canada.

Rather than spending millions of dollars in litigation, claiming to ‘protect ‘ us from this proven, effective, and safe natural treatment, we call on Health Canada to respect the will of Canadians and the twice proven will of Parliament and allow us to freely access the supplement without harassment or unjustified restrictions.

The Red Umbrellas know through personal experience that mental illness can be resolved through safe, natural means, and we claim the right to choose health, regardless of the classification of the treatment, whether drug or vitamin. We appreciate Truehope’s efforts in enduring years of malicious prosecution, and hope that in the future, the company will be free to grow and develop great new ways of supporting the mentally ill in Canada.

The Red Umbrellas stand for freedom of choice in health care in Canada. We support reforms in legislation such as Bill C-420 that will allow all Canadians increased freedom in access to natural therapies of all types. We commend Truehope for their efforts in brining their natural treatment for mental illness to all Canadians. Send us an email to show your support of what Truehope and other natural health companies are doing to promote free access to natural health products in Canada.
